Bayfield, WI
Apostle Island Area Campground & Boat Ride with Bonnie & Gary
Actually, we got a jump on our trip by leaving on Thursday, July 12th and staying overnight at the Grand Casino RV Park in Hinckley. Yes, Tom did some gambling and managed to loose $35. So much for paying for our trip!
Friday we were on the road from Hinckley, across Wisconsin to Bayfield. The dive was beautiful. Rolling hills and green countrysides. Arriving at the Apostle Island Area Campground late afternoon we setup camp and then drove into town to check out the sites. We hadn't parked more than 10 minutes and a lite rain started to fall and then turned into steady rain. We dodged into a local restaurant/bar and ordered dinner, hoping that the rain would stop by the time we were done with dinner. Unfortunately it didn't but we still hit some of the shops that were still open.
Saturday was spent boating on Lake Superior with Bonnie (a co-worker of Mike's) and Gary (Bonnie's husband). We had a wonderful time and made it back to shore just before the next storm arrived at the end of the day. Bonnie made a wonderful lunch and we just spent time watching the islands go by and having some great conversations. Our thanks to Bonnie and Gary for the invite and their hospitality. It was great fun!
The weekend went by to fast, even with leaving on Thursday. Sunday morning arrived and we packed-up and headed back home, this time via Superior. The drive along the south shore was nice and we stopped at a wayside rest, made lunch and enjoyed it sitting at a picnic table overlooking the lake.
You'll notice we didn't say anything about the resort. Enough said?
Until next trip!

When Mike and I camped near Bayfield, we stayed at the Indian Reservation campground just north of town. It was right on Lake Superior and had great views. However, the mosquitos drove me to distraction, enough for me to comment, "I think I'm through camping for my lifetime." I do love the Apostle Islands though. The boat trip sounded wonderful.
