Sibley State Park

Memorial Day Weekend

We are back on the road again. While we did a weekend trip two weeks ago, this is our first full weekend trip and what we are considering the start of our camping season. Unfortunately it was a very wet start in a less than ideal campsite.

When we booked the site last year it looked like it might have a lake view. At that time the reservation system did not feature photos of the campsites, as it does now. (One compliment we have to give to the new system.) So we did not have any idea how narrow the site really was and the lack of view and space we would have.  We walked out our door into a hill covered in brush with barely enough room for the patio mat. The fire ring was way to the front of the camper and really not an ideal location for enjoying. Plus, when it rained, we had a puddle at the foot of our door.  Not ideal, however our neighbors were friendly and quite. We obviously have been spoiled by Wild River State Park.

Friday arrival allowed for set up and chicken on the grill and camp fire. It was a nice evening. We took a walk with Annie and Sam to a view of the lake, beach, and fishing pier. Sam's age does not allow for strenuous walks, but we managed to cover the lakeside of the park, which was very nice. Late night allowed us to catch up on a few movies - Iron Lady and My Week with Marilyn. We would recommend them both.

Saturday, was a day for us to memorialize the one year anniversary of Ma's passing. It has hard to believe it has been a year and we still are learning to navigate each day without her. We have fond camping memories with Ma and her pictures are now part of our home on wheels. Saturday became a washout with rain, so more movies and periodic texts with our friend Jan camping (again) at Wild River State Park. Since our campsite filled with water - no grilling tonight. We always have a contingency plan with a packed pantry - time for tacos.

With the rainy Saturday and more storms in the forecast we decided to head out midday on Sunday. We were glad we did as storms rolled in just as we arrived home. It was good to be home. One plus with having your own RV is if one week is a washout there is always next week. Not like the years we spent renting cabins where we had to pack it all in on one trip or wait until the next year. Now it's not a big deal if we pack up or move plans as the camper is always packed and ready to go!

Annie is adjusting to camping without any issues. Although she now thinks she can climb up on the bed in the morning and cuddle! (We're working on that.) She also rides well in the truck and likes to travel with her head rested on the center console just so she can see us if one eye happens to open. She sure is damn cute!

The new trailer is really nice, but LONG!! Mike has really noticed the difference and in small campgrounds like this one, has to be really careful going around corners as the back-end has a wide swing to it. Otherwise it pulls great down the road and has plenty of space for the four of us and all our gear.

Next month is our big trip to Fall Lake just north of Ely. Can't wait!

Until next time!
