We got out of town around 8 PM and as usual, we made our overnight stop at Grand Casino RV Park in Hinckley. The placed was packed! Glad we had a reservation.

After a stop at Tobies to stock up on caramel rolls and apple fritters, we hit the road and arrived at the campground around 4 PM.

The campground is located between Hwy 61 and Lake Superior. It's not real big, but it is nice and we have a partial view of the lake. However, there is a lot of road noise. We're a quarter mile from the highway, max, so you hear every truck and motorcycle that goes by. It's not exactly what we're use to, but the view compensates for it.
Tom put out his new hummingbird feeder today. He's hoping that we'll get some visitors to it.
We drove up to Lutsen and had dinner at the Lutsen Lodge. Tom had a great London broil and I had the walleye. Both were great. After dinner we walked down to the lake and sat on the shore and just watched the clouds and the lake. Very relaxing.

We're starting the day with coffee and CNN radio. Can't believe that New Orleans is going to get hit again with a category 4 hurricane. How very sad for those people.
Drove down to Tettegouche State Park and hiked up to the High Falls where we went across the cable bridge. What a beautiful hike! The woods were so thick and it was so quiet. Just wonderful.
We checked out the campground and decided that we'll pass on this park. Despite the road noise, we really like being on the lake and Tettegouche is up in the hills, without a lake view.
After High Falls, we walked down to the bay where the Tettegouche River flows into Lake Superior. Spent some time wading in the water and just laying on the beach and soaking in some sun.
We then took a drive into the Superior National Forest looking for potential boondocking sites. We may have found one, but it's so far off of the highway that we most likely will never camp there. Had a wonderful drive through the forest though.
Back at the campsite we cooked up some wild rice brats and caught the latest on hurricane Gustav, (love that Sirius satellite radio). We then took a walk down to the shore of Lake Superior, sat on the rocks and watched the stars. It was WONDERFUL! So many stars. We were able to see the Milky Way and saw two satellites go overhead. Very cool!!
Back at the camper we fired-up the DVD player, watched a movie and went to bed.
All-in-all, a wonderfully, perfect day. The weather was clear, warm and low humidity. Just picture perfect.

What a great day! The weather was just perfect.
We slept in late (10 AM!!) and didn't get on the road until noon. We drove up the Gunflint Trail to check out some Forest Service campgrounds and the moose lookout. We found a couple of campsites in two different campgrounds that we'll have to come and visit someday. Right now, most of next year is already planned and booked, so we'll see.
The moose lookout was a short hike back into the woods to a marsh area that is a regular watering spot for the moose in the area. We didn't see a moose, but had a nice hike.

After the campsites and the lookout, we drove back to Grand Marais and checked out a couple of galleries, the trading store, and a local tavern for a bite to eat. On the way back to the campground we hiked the Temperance River and the bay area of Lake Superior.

Where did the weekend go to?? Time to break camp and hit the road. The sunrise over the lake was wonderful this morning. Bright, bright orange. We got to see it as there was no sleeping in late today. We have to be home by 4 PM so it was up with the sun and on the road.
So, until next trip….
